What changed in 2026
Meta changed its terms for the WhatsApp Business API: open AI assistants that answer about any topic (like ChatGPT or Perplexity on WhatsApp) are out. Bots that serve a company's customers (questions, orders, bookings, support) are still allowed.
Exception: the restriction does not apply to numbers from Brazil (+55) or Italy, where competition regulators stopped it (in Brazil, CADE, January 2026; the case is still in conciliation).
Why doesn't ChatGPT answer me on WhatsApp anymore?
If you used the ChatGPT number to talk to the AI from your personal WhatsApp, that service ended because of the change above (except with Brazilian or Italian numbers).
